1st Sunday in Lent

Today I take a break from the regular blogging. Because during Lent, Sundays are a “day off” of sorts. Did you ever notice that there are more than 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday?

In the early days, Christ’s followers honored Saturday as the Sabbath – a day for worship and rest. Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday, and to honor this day of a “new creation” the disciples began to hold Sundays in reverence as the Sabbath. No fasting or penance was supposed to occur on the Sabbath. That day was to be spent in worship and rest. So, Sundays do not count in the 40 days of Lent.

In keeping with that, I will not focus on the ugliness of today. I will hold the message of this morning’s service in my heart. I will do my best to take the forgiveness, grace and love I’ve been given and “pass it on.”
